Welcome to Counselling with Jamarl

Jamarl Gordon BA (Hons) MBACP

Hi! welcome and thank you for making what will hopefully mark the start of you exploring and challenging the issues and concerns that have brought you to my website.

I am an Integrative Counsellor with an Bachelor’s Degree in Counselling. I am also a Registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.

I work integratively, depending on what approach is most helpful for you. Sessions are usually client led, and I will help you find positive ways of dealing with your issues of concern. While, if you prefer a more directive approach, I have vast experience of working this way too.

I currently work in the charity sector as an in-house counsellor, specialising in mental health support for adults experiencing anxiety, relationship difficulties, grief and loss.

Working With Me

The thought of counselling for some people can be quite daunting; however, you will be supported throughout this process. If you decide to make an appointment with me, you will be in a safe, non-judgemental and trusting space where we will only talk about what you feel comfortable with and at a pace that feels right for you.

I have a friendly and down-to-earth approach, and I am focused on developing a positive and trusting relationship with you. You will be supported holistically, enabling us to work together to facilitate a greater awareness and understanding into your difficulties, as well as your strengths.

I am experienced in helping people who have experienced difficulties with:

Anxiety

Relationships

LGBTQIA+ issues

Gender and Identity

Depression

Confidence

Self-esteem

Academic pressure

Bereavement

My Approaches

My approaches are humanistic which include both person-centred and existential therapy. In these approaches, you will be empowered to lead the therapeutic process, with me as your counsellor providing a safe, trusting and non-judgemental space built by empathy, genuineness and unconditional positive regard to foster self-awareness and growth.

I also work from a psychodynamic approach and believe that a lot of issues can be helped by delving into the history of the client and making sense of where current thoughts and behaviours may come from and what may trigger them.

Whilst when working from a Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) approach, we would focus on the connection between your thoughts, feelings, emotions and behaviours, helping you to identify and challenge negative thoughts to improve your mood and behaviour. It may also be helpful, if you are somebody who prefers structured or solution-focused counselling.

Location

Counselling sessions are delivered online through Google Meet or alternatively via telephone to ensure flexibility for you. I also provide limited face to face sessions in Clapham North and Brixton, London.

Sessions and Fees

Each session is 50 minutes long and in the first session we may discuss what has led you to seek counselling, answer any questions you may have and get to know each other. You are then free to decide if you would like to go ahead with me as your counsellor. The sessions can either be open-ended or for an agreed number of sessions, and we can also review our work together every six weeks. The most important thing to take away from this is that you will never be pressured to talk about something that you are uncomfortable with, and I will go at a pace that is comfortable for you.

  • My fees are £60 per session for Face-to-Face Counselling
  • Online counselling is available for £50 per session

If you are unable to afford the full amount, please do get in touch and we can discuss.
